Elecon has manufactured and supplied Worm Planetary type Slew drive gear box for Stacker Reclaimer machine to SAIL – Durgapur. This gear box is a replacement of existing imported gear box.

 

The worm planetary gearbox is of horizontally input shaft and vertical output shaft type wall-mounted gearbox comprising of three-stage reductions viz.1 st stage of worm gear pair and 2 nd, 3 rd stage is designed with planetary gear systems. The gearbox is supplied with foundation plates, which is rigidly bolted with the structure.

 

The drive is equipped with a slip coupling (overload protection). In case of overload, the worm gear rim slips through, thus limiting the torque. The slip moment is adjusted via. a spring washer block by an adjusting bolt.

 

The Gear hosing is made up of Fe-410 WA material duly welded and stress relieved before machining. The worm shaft and wheel are made out of 20MnCr5 and Phosphor Bronze (Pb2-C) and sun pinion, planet wheels are made up of case-hardening alloy steel. Teeth are case hardened and ground to very close accuracy as per latest DIN specifications. The Annulus is made up of high tensile alloy steel duly heat treated so as to ensure better strength and reliability.

 

The gearbox is splash lubricated. Being dipped into the oil sump lubricates the gears.

The boggie drive unit consists of double side helical and at the center a worm gear unit which is specified as double Heli-worm gear unit.

 

The boggie drive arrangement is used where bridge scrapper for lime stone is required to stack and for that this gear boxes are used at two different speeds.

 

Shunting speed (High speed) - This is achieved through an A.C. Motor which drives worm gear unit through coupling (on RH side).

 

Reclaiming speed(Low speed) - This is achieved through D.C. Motor which is driven Helical gear box and driving worm gear unit (on LH side).

Steel tubes having diameter 20 to 50 mm sizes are drawn by cold drawing process and process from steel stripes passes through each gear unit output double shafts on which different formation of shape dies are mounted on both output shaft and between dies, steel stripes passes results to form a steel tube of specific diameter. These type of Gear units are installed in series. The first gear box is having three input in which the first input is connected to electric motor. Second input is connected to the input of next gear box and the third input is connected to generator so that in case of the power failure the process of drawing the tube will continue in operation. The other gear units in the series is having input shaft double extended. These type of gears are specially developed for one of the tube manufacturer in India.

Tdis gear unit is mainly used in conveyor track drive in automation assembly and painting plant particularly in automobile industries.

 

Tde gear unit consists of first worm pair and second stage helical pair special witd vertical output shaft downward is supported by plumber block bearing which is mounted on conveyor drive frame. A sprocket delivers motion to tde conveyor chain directly from tde output side of tde gear box tdrough a sprocket whose teetd mesh witd tde links of tde conveyor chain. tde drives are fixed or a floating frame and generally installed along any horizontal straight run of conveyor track.

This gear unit has been specially developed for M/S Vishakhapattanam steel plant, Vizag for their medium merchant steel mills in which different types and sizes of sections like C, I, L are rolled from sponge iron billets. These gear boxes are having single input and two output hollow spline shaft where the guide rollers are mounted on which required size and type of the die is mounted to obtain the final section. These type of the gear units are mounted in a series of 10 numbers.

Elecon has developed above 17" center distance gear unit in the size 24" & 28" for special purpose applications.

 

24" size is developed in underdriven mounting position used for opening heavy duty gate on water dam.

 

28" size is developed in underdriven mounting position for double reduction gear unit(14/28) size for an application of Launching Pad Platforms used at ISRO SHAR CENTER, SRIHARIKOTA.

 

The casing of the gear box is of welded construction and mainly in two parts.
